The history of Fonwall: from PHP to Next.js by carpenter's hands
The history of Fonwall begins back in 2011, when the idea came to create a website that would give users the opportunity to share their photos and postcards for free.
From that time to this day, I'm the only one who runs the site. This is not a company with a staff or even a community of enthusiasts. Although, most likely, it's much more fun to work in a team, but in my case I'm self—taught, and I work as a simple carpenter in a very ordinary factory.
Fonwall is my hobby. As it was for them, so it remains. Everything that the site earns, and all financial support for the project from caring users, goes to pay for servers and improve the platform. Well, for coffee, of course =)
Why are there almost no ads on the site?
You've probably noticed that there are fewer and fewer ads on the pages. Thank you for supporting the project with your modest donations! With their help, I reduce the number of banners so that the balance is just enough to pay for servers and everything necessary for full-fledged work.
That's why you don't see tons of ads, pop-ups, or any hidden uploaders here. Everything is free and culturally designed with the sole purpose of providing you with decent service and not distracting your attention to unnecessary services.
My dream
I have one dream: that our community should number not hundreds of thousands of users, but millions. Millions of people who sincerely appreciate and love kindness and respect. Nowadays, people often forget that they need to help each other.
How the code (and my life) changed
I remember how in 2011 I started developing a project from scratch in PHP + MySQL, without understanding programming at all. It was still a quest, and how many mistakes were made... It's scary to even remember. It was very difficult, but at the same time I had a great desire to finish what I started!
From friends and relatives, I constantly heard only one thing: that I was doing some unnecessary stuff, it was time to give up this business and do something "important" offline. But they all didn't understand how important it was for me to create Fonwall the way it is today.
In 2013, when Node came into fashion.js and MongoDB, I couldn't resist. After studying them, Fonwall acquired not only a new look and structure, but also a completely updated backend. This significantly accelerated the work of the site, for which I am very grateful to the creators of Node.js and MongoDB.
In early 2020, having discovered React.js and in particular Next.js, I had to repeat this feat and rewrite everything again =)
In fact, I've been doing Fonwall every day for half my adult life in my free time: coming up with something new or completely rewriting the old to fit modern technologies.
Thank you!
I see your reviews on various websites, read what you send me by email, and see how you share with me some of your hard-earned money. I am immensely grateful to you for this and hope that I will not disappoint you in the future!
